My mind is blown. I don’t know how long this has been out, but apparently, its onto v1.1 Beta, so this thing must have been out for a few months.

For those of you who don’t know the purpose of Google Goggles, its an image recognition system. Take a photo of a location, text in a foreign language, logos, and lots more other stuff with your mobile, and it’ll be able to return details of the location, translate the text, return details of the company logo etc. In short, if you’ve watched Eden of the East, THIS IS THE EDEN SYSTEM. :wah:

Screw Windows Phone 7 Series. No amount of pretty, intuitive UI is going to win me over from this. Android is where it’s at.

For those of you that don’t know, Cloud Computing is the posterchild of Web2.0 (what many perceive to be an incorrectly named standard, as there is no official version number of the Web).

BUT, what Web2.0 does represent is the ability for increased user interaction with websites, to tailor them to have what they want, when they want, and how they want it.  However…. there are some drawbacks… → read more

Google’s Superbowl Ad

As you may know, the Superbowl is American Football’s annual grand final. Ads during the broadcast of the Superbowl cost millions of dollars. Google has decided it needs advertising (why, I have no idea, Bing can’t be that popular) and it has made a very sweet ad.

Sydney, Australia (10 June 2009) Number 17 Inc. has suffered from reduced activity of late, yet a report released today has astonished shareholders and even the board of directors. Having implemented previously disclosed plans for expansion, further expansion, innovation and replacing Zac Efron in his latest movie, shareholders had expected an major increase in the company’s business activities and a subsequent rise in share prices. However, there has been nothing but severe disappointment for the last three months, as the company’s share price remained steady at its long time average of $0.00.

The report released today was a simple screen print from a web browser, which depicted the following:

Definitely over 9000.

Definitely over 9000.

So I was trying out the new Microsoft search engine bing. I found it quite decent overall – even if it does look rather like google. And, of course, being somewhat vain I tried to stalk myself over the internet. Essentially, the search term I used was “david pham” “james ruse,” since there’s a professional poker player who’d otherwise drown out the results. There weren’t many results related to me specifically, so I continued onto google to search for the same terms. And there were rather more results, probably due to the fact that bing hasn’t been around for long. And I found something relatively interesting. Apologies if my posting of the article seems a bit egotistic/self-centered/arrogant etcetera.

But the fun begins!

So, today I decided that I would take my interest with cars a step further. Instead of hypothesising body design and wheel design in my head as I’m used to (since my drawing skills are terrible) I have decided to undertake computer aided design to draw rough concepts of my ideas of potential vehicles.

To serve this purpose, I have decided to use Google Sketchup, a free software that is mainly used for things like mathematical constructions and general floor layouts of homes. However, it allows manipulation of 3D objects in many different ways, so it really can be made to create anything – desks, tables, doors, etc.

I decided to download the program and watched the first couple of video tutorials on the general functions of the program. After I familiarised myself, I decided to experiment, by creating a basic wheel design. I have to say, I am quite pleased with the results of a quick rough and basic design and look forward to continuing my work with the program until someday I am able to create an entire car model from it.

See after the break for my wheel.
