After protecting myself from the spoilers that were readily available on the internet for a year or so, I have finally watched a poorly encoded, completely legal DVD back-up of the second rebuild movie. I have lots to say about this movie, but my thoughts aren’t organised enough to create a handy list or matrix, so I’ll vomit stuff out per my usual procedure. (oh yeah, non-plot spoiling but possibly experience spoiling spoilers)
The movie used Kare Kano tracks! I don’t think Sagisu can compose in the same style he had back in 1995-1998 anymore. Hence, we have a movie with recycled NGE music AND recycled Kare Kano music, as well as new pieces of music that I have mixed opinions about. On that topic, I think the 2.0/2.22/2-derivative version of Thanatos has an additional piano thing going with the strings but I might just be trying to pick something out from all the weirdness.
Yeah, I’ve still got two VERY VERY crap weeks coming, and I’m clearly working hard at it. Anyway, I got sick of seeing Roy’s angry constipated face ruining this page, so to make up for it:
Apparently this came from some noitaminA show called Moyashimon.
Remember how I said there were some nge references in the first ep? There’s more here. =P Seriously, this show’s awesome. A cross between Evangelion and old-school Power Rangers? DO WANT.
The title of my recent posts are kinda crap hey? But this is a post containing thoughts that have crossed my mind, and I kinda want to get them out there while I still remember them. I suppose they might split into 2 sections… since they’re on completely different topics.
Again by the duncanbros. Wow, what a blast from the past! There’s nothing like a parody of Power Rangers in robots fighting giant dino-humans. There’s nothing like a well placed but dodgy NGE reference either!
On a more serious note, I don’t have high expectations for this movie now, it’ll probably be all action again with dodgy slower moments that don’t quite feel right. (1.0 felt a little tacky, partly because it reused everything except for the pacing, which is bad). Trailer looks beautiful however, and animation is quite fluid and detailed looking. It still has loads of CG but it sort of looks better now I guess, because they’re not just CG-ifying existing shots of crap.
Somehow came across this today. So now we know Evangelion 2.0: YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE is coming out in Japanese cinemas on June 27 this year. And to think they said it’d be done by Christmas 2007/Early 2008…
They’re also doing another rerelease of Evangelion 1.0, dubbed Evangelion 1.11. With Evangelion 1.01 representing the DVD release with reanimated (read: even more CG-ified) scenes, Evangelion 1.11 is going to be the Blu-Ray release with new reanimated scenes. What this means, I’m willing to guess is that the backgrounds will have even more vaguely gaudish CG to make the limited detail characters even more out of place. Adding onto my speculation, I’m also thinking they’ll rerelease this in Japanese cinemas just like they did for Evangelion 1.01, because this whole new movie series is for the monie$.
On a related note, I hope Funimation gets a hold of the Blu-Ray release and releases it region free so I can replace my abhorrable Evangelion 1.01 (named Evangelion 1.0 by Red Ant) release…
